Koristi li neko OpenSolaris? Ili Nexentu ili nesto slicno...
Uglavnom me zanima je l' je port za x86 po brzini u rangu sa Linuxom ili je idalje spor na PCu, kao i Solaris.

Pa vidi: Volim da eksperimentisem sa sistemima. Jos odavno merkam Solaris, ali mi rekose da je nepodnosljivo spor na PCu.
Znaci svrha bi bila desktop i ceprkanje po sistemu. :)

uz put: Koliko je nov softver na zadnjim diskovima OpenSolarisa? Npr koji je KDE ili Gnome... Ako ih uopste ima na diskovima :)

Bez namere da pokrecem diskustiju o starim Solaris mitovima, reci cu samo da Solaris radi podjednako brzo na PC-ju koliko i na SPARC-u. Za realno poredjenje sa Linuxom moras da imas i konkretan slucaj, ali Sun ima filozofiju: "Ako je neki drugi operativni sistem brzi od Solarisa, to je onda Solaris bug", tako da ce ti za sve sta ti treba biti zadovoljavacuje brz - za neke stvari brzi, za neki sporiji, ali u bilo kom slucaju dobices OS koji je makar isto toliko upotrebljiv koliko i neki OpenSource sistem.
OpenSolaris ima svoje distribucije, pa od ljudi koji ga pakuju zavisi sta ces dobiti. Najbolje ti je da pogledas:

Ja koristim regularan Solaris (koji je, po vecini testova sporiji nego Open Solaris). U desktop radu nisam primetio nikakve razlike. Sad, ja imam OK jak racunar, i ne izivljavam se puno, ali ja stvarno ne osecam da je ikad sporo. Radi kao i bilo koji Linux.

Za open solaris, pitanje je KOJI. Najbolje da pogledas po sajtovima samih distro-a + po blastwave-u. :)

Drugo pitanje je da li si GNU ili OpenSource religiozan. Ako ti religija dopusta da koristis zatvoren kod, mozes da se posluzis Solaris Expressom koji je zasnovan na Nevadi (Solaris 11) ili regularno Solaris 10 izdanje (Solaris Enterprise System) sa kojim dobijes i brdo softvera.
Ako ti je zatvoren kod tabu, onda lepo furaj Nexentu koja zapravo samo sadrzi OpenSolaris kernel i GNU userland.

Dobro pitanje je da li si vec experimentisao sa pravim Sun Solarisom? Ako nisi, zasto ne krenes od njega prvo?

Inace ako stignem probacu neki od ovih open solaris distro-a...

Ma nije mi OpenSource tabu. Meni treba nesto 'free as a beer' :) [Nadam se da RMS nece da procita ovo :)]
Frka mi je sa vremenom. Inace sam dosao do instalacionog CDa sa Nexentom.
A potrudicu se da dodjem i do pravog Solarisa.

Ja sam probao, doduse, jako kratko... i odmah sam imao neke vrste raspada u igri... tako da sam (mozda i brzopleto) zakljucio da to jos nije zreo proizvod...
